My academic article about Maureen C. Meadows and her 1948 semi-fictionalised memoir I Loved those Yanks has been published in the latest edition of Hecate. You’ll need the necessary permissions/memberships to access it though. I Loved those Yanks is (to cite Meadows’ Austlit bio) ‘one of the few published accounts of life in Australia during World War II to have been written by a woman’. I’m a tad obsessed with Meadows and her memoir (for reasons that are clear in the article) which I stumbled upon in my doctoral research on the Australian home-front novel.
I was fortunate to obtain this rare copy (pictured above) of I Loved Those Yanks! from a second-hand book shop in Nambucca Heads for only $20. The Queensland State Library has a copy in the John Oxley collection.
